Rick once recorded for Motown but don't expect too much of an R&B groove here. Very much a concept album it homes in on the responsibilities and joys of family relationships. A strong theme which unfortunately isn't fully realised. Recorded live at the Church On The Way, Van Nuys, Rick and Cathy sing well but some of the songs are dull so that even that explemporary rhythm section: Abraham Laboriel, Paul Jackson Jr, Alex Acuna, Justo Almario et al only lift interest when given room to contribute scorching solos "Lord Forever". Another problem is that the mini-choir of backing singers tend towards bland out. If you've a heart for the theme of the album you may want to investigate but I personally wasn't convinced.

I have been a major fan of Rick Riso for many years, going way back to his time with the band Messenger he is not only an incredible singer songwriter, but a wonderful individual as well, although I love everything he does,Messenger was my favorite project that he was with,I wish i could have their 2 albums The New Has Come and Bringin The Message on cd does anyone know where to find them circa 1976 to 1978?

I my honest opinion, this article is a murdering of a land mark work. Of all of Rick's albums, As for my house stands out, bringing out a bold and brave message in a sick and depraved world. I 've had the album for the best part of the last 15 years, and I think it is still one of the best I've got, and I've got many!!
