The Spring Hill Worship series is a collection of albums containing new songs for worship by a variety of American artists such as Tom Lane, John Walker, Anadara and Scott Rigan. According to their website Spring Hill worship provide "New songs today for the church tomorrow." On first listen I felt spectacularly under whelmed as all the songs tread the same old well worn guitar-driven pop formula of much of today's contemporary worship output. Further listens though revealed that in actual fact this is a particularly strong collection of worship songs. The opener "I Choose You" and "Amazing God" are slightly reminiscent of Third Day, while "You Are Good" is a country infused rock song sounding not dissimilar to something Vicky Beeching might have penned. Also outstanding, "Not What My Hands Have Done" is a bluesy exploration of God's grace. The production, by Joe Beck and Jim Frazier, is first class and the CD is enhanced with printable lyrics, chord charts and biographical information. As a resource for church worship it certainly hits the mark in congregational friendly songs, standout track being "Hallelujah" by Adrian Robertson et al with it's simple yet strong melody and lyrics, without necessarily pushing the boundaries of contemporary worship music. Well worth a listen!
