On this set the Richmond, Ohio-based family group have re-recorded another batch of their most popular songs. There is certainly a modern contemporary feel to the Southern gospel anthems here from such writers as Gerald Crabb (Trading A Cross For A Crown" and "I Can Trust Jesus"), a young Phil Collingsworth ("Bottom Of The Barrell") and his mum, Kim, ("He'll Bring You Through"). There is a very effective trumpet medley, but again as in Vol 1, there is no indication as to who is playing it. The Judds' big country hit "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days)" is given a very effective workout and this perhaps highlights what is lacking in too many of these tracks. Whilst there is a very pleasant variety with good words, they lack a bit of musical bite. Also for me there is just too much orchestration. "Sheltered In The Arms Of God" sees Kim on a very listenable piano instrumental as is the concluding track, the very powerful "My Tribute." On a Collingsworth Family album, there is no lack of variety with the instrumentals. I just wish some of the vocal tracks were a little more exciting.
