At last indeed, a live recording from my favourite contemporary bluegrass band. This her's an ensemble pouring out a power and authenticity to stand head high alongside the early giants of the genre. Good as the Squad's previous recordings were, their vitality and humour cried out for a live set, and here 'tis, steaming hot and raring to go. Their leader Ron Thomason composed eight of the 21 tracks, fitting well with familiar material such as Stephen Foster's poignant "Hard Times" and Si Kahn's hard hitting "Aragon Mill". The gospel tracks include traditional items "Goin' Up The Mountain". "Walk The Streets Of Glory" and "Midnight On The Stormy Deep", all immaculately performed, with a real feel for that genuine gospel sound. The Dry Branch Fire Squad offer the best of everything, I reckon a drop of this stuff will do y'all a power of good.
