Maybe this is how music should be expressed. The quartet The Gospel Originals from Aiken, South Carolina, don't have a marketing machine behind them; they turn up and sing. There is a raw quality about the way they attack songs; I like it. The harmonies are close, stay in tune and make me think that when gospel music first started to be sung in the US it probably sounded a lot like this. The lack of polish is engaging rather than being disappointing, it's real, and sounds like messy human beings expressing their thanks to God with soul. Five songs are sung with nothing but voices and three have some well executed instrumentation, with some standout keyboard work.
