There is definitely a conspiracy. The CR office keep sending me folk stuff and I keep liking it! This time you need to take a bunch of folkies who don't at all mind rock electric guitar, the usual flute, fiddle and mandolin, and mix together with no pretensions about being trad. The result is an eclectic but enjoyable album of allsorts with lots of appeal. What they don't have in the mix is a pot of cash (Oh no! Not again!). Consequently production values are down and I am left wondering what a few extra quid would have achieved, especially for Vicki's voice which somehow isn't exploited to the full. Marvellously, like the company, the bass is fretless and juicily contributes to the excellent cover of Iona's "Today". The band is perhaps best typified by "There's A Place" which begins as folk, transforms to ska with an overlaid flute solo and concludes with a jazz finale. There are piles of creativity and fun here which are surely worth further investment.
