Having spent most of his life ministering and being a peace negotiator in the Middle East, a world that is almost unrecognisable to readers in the comfortable West. Jeff Short chats with Andrew about his new daily meditation book.

Jeff: One of the things I remember from that story was not just that God marvellously provided refrigerated lorry loads of meat at the time of Eid in the Muslim world but the precursor to that was you had an encounter with God, a cloud of God's glory surrounding you. Is that right?

Andrew: That's what led me to pray for the meat. I didn't pray for meat it just came. It was after experiencing a vision of the reality of the presence of God, the real glory cloud, the incredible Shekinah glory that was the beginning of our supernatural life there.

Jeff: You were qualified in other ways before you were called into the priesthood, weren't you? You could have said here's a life calling in the world of medicine, and yet you received this higher calling.

Andrew: Well, I received an equal calling and a glorious calling. I never underestimate the significance of a medical life. That was a great calling. But this is an even greater calling.

Jeff: You're travelling to America, you're going to Singapore, these doors have opened for you. Could you have imagined that when you first heard a call to the priesthood?

Andrew: I thought I'd be a vicar in some not very exciting parish. I did spend a time in a parish, and I loved it but God sent me on from there. I couldn't have imagined really going from running the cardiac arrest team at a major London teaching hospital. I thought it's going to be so boring being a vicar and I think that's why I ended up in Baghdad and Jerusalem because I'm a bit of an adrenalin junkie and I needed to do really exciting wonderful supernatural things. And by God's grace and his mercy he has enabled me to. What I really take great joy in is meeting people all over the world and they desperately all want to see something of God. Well, I say, that is my story. This is my story, this is my song, praising the name of Jesus all day long.

Jeff: So if someone is sitting at home and they say 'that sounds incredible. Could I connect with this God that Andrew's talking about?'

Andrew: Absolutely. This God that I know personally, who is my friend and your friend is waiting there to be friends of us all. He's standing there saying I'm here; call me, invite me to be part of your life. And he will come in supernaturally and the same things I've experienced at a different level will be experienced by you.  CR
