Ahead of the immanent release of his new duets album, Cliff Richard returns to the business of delivering a Christmas single. He has, of course, an unparalleled track record in this department and though many people try to dismiss the veteran, Cliff remains Britain's most successful pop artist ever, having had singles in six different decades but still no number 1 hit in the noughties. I'd love for Cliff's fans to head off to the shops this week en masse and take this to the top! "21st Century Christmas" is the perfect glossy pop that Cliff does so well, with a very clever lyric packed with contemporary cultural references marrying all the Santa stuff with the happenings of Bethlehem 2000 years ago. And I love the production, stacked vocals and catchiness of the song. A palpable hit! And when you're stuffed full of turkey, you can flip "21st Century Christmas" and play the updated version of "Move It", his very first hit single from 1958. This version comes augmented by the guitar work of Queen's Brian May and an appearance by original Shadow, Brian Bennett. It's a slowed down swampy version with updated lyrics and deserves to be heard again.

'Immanent' in my dictionary means 'naturally part of
something; inherent; integral; restricted to the mind;
subjective'. Don't you mean 'imminent', in other words,
'it's coming soon'? Actually, I bought a copy of Cliff's
'Two's Company' over a month ago ....
