Mallett works in secular music, writing songs covered by a whole batch of top artists. Paul Stookey had a USA hit with "The Garden Song" (also recorded by Arlo Guthrie) and Dolores Keane's latest album includes the beautiful "Summer Of My Dreams". Mallett's music is tender, flowing country/folk, a kind of male version of Nanci Griffith if you like. His songs have often expressed his Christian beliefs very poetically, his skilfull writing and warm resonant voice combine for an object lesson in communication. The album has 12 new gems, outstanding songs include "The Road Goes On Forever", "Pray For Rain", "Change Of The Seasons" and "Old Soldiers", the latter co-written with Hal Ketchum. A fine album, well worth tracking down.
