A brand new worship album that manages to sound really dated from the first song to the last. There are a number of things that don't work on this recording. Firstly Dave Wuyts has been blessed with a voice that if he'd been recording in the '60s would probably have sounded okay soaked in all this reverb which I suspect is to cover the weaknesses of his actual voice. However in this context the songs would have been stronger had he got another singer to take over most of the vocal duties. And then there's the songs... Recently I've been wondering out loud whether we really need all these worship songs recording and releasing, even independently. This illustrates my point. The songs on this CD suffer from banal melodies and lyrics and bland arrangements. The result is that I get the feeling of having heard every single one of them a hundred times before. The result is a dated, forgettable album where the limited budget doesn't help but where I suspect that throwing more money at the project probably wouldn't have made a huge amount of difference. In a live worship setting, David is probably a blessing to his local congregation and these songs may be popular but that doesn't mean they merit committing to the cold unforgiving light of digital scrutiny in my CD player.
