More for lovers of reggae from London's chief exponent of the laid back, off-beat artform and Errol Brown look-alike, David Smith. It's a million miles away from the reggae/jungle crossovers that the clubs are playing but there's clearly still a market for this purer mould and Mr Smith does it with a charm that's hard to define. Maybe it's the authentic Caribbean sound that's been created in South London, maybe it's the simplicity of the tune and lyric ("I love you because you love me"), but that charm is still there. This is sadly not true of the B-side, a soppy love ballad that begins with a talkie and goes downhill. I doubt whether 'Because' will win over any new fans, but lovers of the genre will enjoy it.
