The album title conjures up images of sounds emanating from pram, pushchair and playgroup, but "early" actually refers to the early '80s. On this evidence I would have thought that was a time in Gary's musical pilgrimage best forgotten rather than re-issued on CD. This is a watery, anaemic brand of pop, as seen in the dismal sound of the instantly forgettable opening track "Feelin' Right" and "The Secret Of Love". Track three, "Love Is A Name", and track four, the beautiful "Father's Eyes", find the artist in a country/folk style which fits much better. What a disappointment that "I Wanna Be Loved By You" was not Marilyn Monroe's cheeky old number, that would have been interesting. No, it's more bland, boring soft pop that drifts into nothingness. Hope you didn't get this for Christmas.
