This is the product of an innovative project where a group of young people signed up for a music workshop - as an activity of choice while at the Faith Ministries International Network (FMIN) Youth Camp 2008. Treading the fine line between overt proselytising and "how to discover the hero within," this skilful youth leadership team have coaxed out of their 13 charges an anthem on a par with much more established writing partnerships. We are treated to a young child's voice introducing the Bible text then two quite diverse settings of the same song - so stretched in fact as to make them feel like two separate tracks. That in itself is a master stroke; it bodes well for any future efforts. The first is mid-paced soft gospel rock woven around a minor rap break, the second a much more reflective, pleading quasi-folk treatment (with a change of vocalist) which only briefly loses the plot with an incongruous short electric guitar solo. The point is in its inception: in four hours, this group of kids wrote the lyrics, chord progressions, melodies, etc and performed the piece to the rest of the camp. It is a charity single, with the proceeds helping to send other young people out to their global network of youth camps.
