A debut release for Mark, 10 songs in an acoustic pop style that are all his own work. The production has a professional polish courtesy of producer/arranger/pianist Paul Leverett and the Listen-In Studio in Cambridge, and Mark has a cliche-free songwriting style that's thankfully very fresh and straightforward. The songs that grabbed my ears on first listen were the lyrical and moody "Eternity Awaits", with some classy guitar from Mark and featuring some atmospheric strings and piano, and the very stripped-down title track, with just Mark's acoustic guitar backing his plaintive vocal. If I had to pigeon-hole Mark's style, I might say "Martyn Joseph", but whilst Mark has a ways to go before emulating Penarth's finest, this CD is a step in the right direction. Worth a look.
