Was it G K Chesterton who said there was nothing so relaxing as confession then a long hot bath? Whoever said it, 'Prayers And Worship' is the audio equivalent. I first listened to it after a particularly trying day at work and it relaxed me so effectively I fell asleep. Imagine Enya singing in the church choir and you'll have a good idea of what is going on here. A few old chestnuts including "Majesty", "Give Thanks" and "Father I Adore You" get the full on "Shepherd Moon" treatment and sound better for it, quite frankly. There's also a sprinkling of Gregorian chant and just a hint of lona, all provided by producer/arranger/keyboard whizz Mark Townsend. It may have an octane rating lower than yesterday's dish water, but if you're after the perfect accompaniment to your quiet time - or a long hot bath - this is it. When I read on the sleeve that 'Prayers And Worship' "takes the listener on a voyage of reflection and worship in a way that is fresh and current," I was a touch sceptical, but after a listen or two I was forced to agree with the record company. Go on, run that bath, lie back and enjoy it.
