The great thing about the Christian scene is how it encompasses so many different approaches to music. Here we have an ageing Northumberland-based folkie who with guitar in hand will play at your place for the price of bus fare and a curry. You'll also espy him every year at the Greenbelt Fringe. Pete actually writes brilliant songs full of humour, irony and spirituality, delivering them in a voice which is definitely an acquired taste. Simple arrangements and a variety of low budget sessions, this is never going to be million selling music but the people down the local folk club seem to like it. And so do I! It's just the cleverness of his story telling that gets me very time. Standouts that tickled my fancy on 'Crystal Stream' include the poignant "You Say You've Met Jesus" and the black humour of "The Righteous Ghosts" and "Live On Prime Time TV". He's an amazingly insightful writer drawing on contemporary references but bringing it all back to Gospel truth. This skill means that on a mainstream stage he has enough passion and lyrical cleverness to hold his own.
