Reviewed by Tony May Seems a steadily growing number of people are left with a strange, yet insistent spiritual thirst after encountering much contemporary pop praise music. The lovely songs from the home of the Catholic renewal movement may well come as a cooling splash of refreshment, bringing beauty, simplicity, reflectiveness and God-centeredness. 13 wonderful gems on this album, splendidly recorded for Protestant consumption in the chapel of a Cambridge theological college and directed by Maggi Dawn who must be enjoying this new direction. The small choir and 4 piece instrumental ensemble, while true to the Taize style, avoid a straight copy of the original recordings (which incidentally have been woefully distributed in the UK), so the sound is somewhat sparser here. The glory of it all is in the fullness of vocal harmony, blended with the classical/folky accompaniment. The true spirit of worship is present, and it's noticeable that no one is rabbiting on about their great ministry or the weight of their anointing. No superstars here, just lovely, authentic, Spirit-filled, worshipful, hype-free music to gladden your day.
