From a church in York with an illustrious past comes this album of worship music for the 21st century. Chris Bowater brought together French producer Gabriel Alonso and Pete Simpson, the worship leader at St Michael Le Belfrey to record a dozen home grown songs as used in the church's popular 7pm service. Happy clappy this is not. Instead the listener is treated to a beautifully produced collection of reflective material. Although the pace rarely moves out of first gear Alonso's dreamy percussive sound creates an ambient atmosphere wherein the singers and musicians are almost part of the music itself. Awesome stuff.
