Another of those value-for-money two LPs on one CD offerings, 23 tracks in all. This stuff's 25 years old now and in all honesty is a mite creaky in places. The dated sound however is acceptable due to the Staples' genius and unique style. The wonderful soulful pouring out, the tight vocal harmonies, Pop's vicious guitar sound, all given a foundation of raw blues, shimmering and intense. The collection is worthwhile too for the resurrection of some great old songs, including "Dock Of The Bay", "The Weight" and "Games People Play". Classic line up of musicians such as The Memphis Horns, Steve Cropper, Donald Dunn etc ensure a full Deep South soul blast, vintage Staples, very little gospel material as such, but a collection of solid, earthy music.
