Over the last few years Trent have played far beyond Nottingham Trent Vineyard where they were birthed, and their guitar-driven modern worship music has been heard at numerous festivals and events. This latest live recording cut at Spring Harvest 2010 will further affirm their reputation with rock-solid, tight playing/singing, perfectly balanced arrangements and memorable songs largely penned by founder and lead vocalist, Nigel Briggs. One of the strongest musical features that comes across here is the ability of Trent to shape the songs, to ebb and flow with the emotive flow of the words. The CD kicks off with the catchy and exuberant "Now And Ever", declaring that Jesus is alive, followed by David Ruis' "I Will Worship" with a grooving bassline that breathes a new dynamic into the song. Matt Redman's "Better Is One Day" is moving and the arrangement is thoughtfully crafted around the climax of the bridge passage, but the highlight for me is the self-penned "Perfect Sacrifice." This song has echoes of Job in its opening "Life could take every dream away/You'd still be my risen one, the place where my hope comes from/Life could break, you'd still be my saving grace. . ." and the very personal conclusion, "All my hope is in you, my treasure and my truth/My hope is in you," a good example of a song that's both meaningful and real. Nigel's voice has an attractively warm and lyrical timbre which, coupled with the musical calibre of the rest of the band, is a credit to God's creative gifting to them as well as the hard work they've obviously put in. Pray that they continue to shine with musicianary excellence yet remain in tune with the Holy Spirit.
