Another fresh and vigorous recording by Christopher Hog-wood of ancient music. Mozart's Mass in C was written as a celebratory Mass for his wedding to Constaze Weber and left unfinished following the death of his baby son at the age of two months. For this recording Christopher Hogwood has returned to the generally faster speeds and punchier rhythms of the time producing a refreshing edition of the work. The two sopranos are not as well balanced as they could be due to the ambience of the church in which it's recorded but this does not detract from the overall integrity the work. The Academy Of Ancient Music - individually credited on the sleeve notes (also refreshing!) - along with a list of their period instruments, give an unforgettable performance, and on their own would make this album well worth getting.
