Author Sasha D. Taylor released her first book, Broken, But I'm Healed in June 2009. It shares her journey from heartbreaking pain to total freedom. Sarah J caught up with her to find how she dealt with the breakdown of a relationship.

Sarah: Tell me a little bit about the book, because the book's about your story isn't it?

Sasha: Yes. It's about my story from pain to freedom. Basically, at the age of fifteen I began a relationship with a guy. He became my everything. He became my god basically. Because I was young I didn't have anything else to compare it with. He was a little bit older than me and more experienced and so I just kind of let him take the lead and kind of lost myself in him, which was fine until we wanted to end the relationship.

Sarah: You described yourself in the book as being quite naïve and you just told me that he was an older more experienced guy. How long were you with him for?

Sasha: I was with him from the age of fifteen until about twenty two - twenty four.

Sarah: And there was quite a depth to the relationship wasn't there; you ended up having a child together?

Sasha: Yes. At the age of twenty I had my son. Everything seemed to be fine up until I had my son, because it gets serious when you have children and you have to look after another life. I started to reflect on things. I was doing some illegal stuff as well. So when I had my son it was like, o my gosh, what would happen, you know the worse case scenario, if I went to prison? During that time I started to seek God, not really wholeheartedly, but I started to seek the Lord.

Sarah: OK. So that was at the point really that you decided that you wanted a relationship with Jesus?

Sasha: Yeah.

Sarah: So what kind of a transformation did that have on you? You said that you were involved in stuff that was a bit dodgy; you had your son; you were in a relationship that you were suddenly beginning to reflect on and have some questions on. What happened when you decided that you wanted to become a Christian?

Sasha: It was kind of his Mum, my ex partners Mum. She was a Christian already. If we had an argument or something she used to witness to me and tell me about the Lord, what he's doing in her life and stuff. I used to listen to her. I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I was receptive to it, but I just thought I can't really go into it because you know I'm doing other things and do I really want to do this; you know when you're just going in, there's a lot of do nots. You can't do this you can't do that. I was thinking I want to do that and I want to do that.

Sarah: So you wanted to do the bad stuff and you knew if you became a Christian you'd have to change.

Sasha: Yeah and I wasn't ready to change.

Sarah: So what made you ready for the change then? What made the difference?
