London-based Mr Guyatt has spent a lifetime making music and adding his soulful vocals to music made by artists as varied as The Gorillaz, Chaka Khan, Mos Def, Robbie Williams, Leona Lewis and Bobby Womack. He has sung on hit recordings, toured the world in Will Young's band but now it's time for him to step out of the shadows into the spotlight. He's always mixed his mainstream music with contributions to gospel and worship music and now it's come down to making a solo album, we get the real Brenden Guyatt and what a revelation it is! With strong songwriting, soulful arrangements and his fabulous voice, this is a contender for the best gospel album to come out of the UK this year. It's his versatility and artistry that is impressive here. He is not afraid to make the music of his choice and mix and match a diverse mix of styles whilst owning them all the way. There are so many highlights! The title track introduces the set and immediately lets the listener know this is something special. There's the sheer emotion of "Julia's Song", and gospel exuberance of "Rescue Me" and a bold cover of The Winans' classic "Yea And Nay". Contributions from Mica Paris, Tommy Sims, Rachel MacFarlane and Carla Ellington only add to the class. And classy is the best way of describing this. Obviously a labour of love, but it's paid off for Guyatt as he delivers an album of top quality.
