Bryn Haworth Band play raunchy, high-energy rhythm 'n' blues which is at its very best live. I particularly loved "Saturday Morning", an instrumental which expresses beautifully that weekend feeling through superlative performances by Bryn himself on slide guitar and Dave Bainbridge at the keys, anchored by a rhythm section which is as tight as they come. Indeed, the entire set is so polished that, were it not for that terrific, unexplainable 'feel', it would often be easy to forget that they are playing to a real live audience. Steve Gregory (sax) and Raul d'Oliveira (trumpet/flugel horn) together manage to sound like an entire brass section, adding the jazz to that dynamic R&B sound, and the vocal harmonies - evident on "The Lord Is Good" and Curtis Mayfield's beautiful "People Get Ready" - maintain the outstanding quality of the whole thing. Thoroughly recommended.
