For many years now Gold City have retained their reputation as the most popular act in Southern gospel though in recent times it's been a major struggle thanks to numerous personnel changes. This album, released last year, goes a long way to returning the five harmonisers to the upper echelons. Lead singer Danny Riley spoke about his love for the old hymns prior to this release while producer and pianist extraordinaire Gordon Mote has wisely pulled back on the rather overblown arrangements which have spoiled some of Gold City's releases and instead allowed the voices of the group to dominate. The hymns are many of the usual suspects, "Nothing But The Blood", "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", "I Need Thee Every Hour" interspersed with a couple of hymns from a more recent era (Getty and Townend's "In Christ Alone" and "Power Of The Cross"). Gordon Mote does his bit while there's a nice ragtime piano breakdown on "Power In The Blood" while best of all some effective blues licks on "Farther Along".
