As far as I'm concerned Paul Overstreet is the poet laureate of country music, able to pen stone classics like George Jones' "Same Old Me" and Randy Travis' "Forever And Ever Amen". This delightful set shows he sings his compositions beautifully as well. Occasionally his versions here, recorded at his home studio on his farm west of Nashville, don't quite have the magic of the hits (Randy Travis' "Forever And Ever Amen" would be impossible to beat). Other times they outshine earlier renditions (Paul's delicious version of "When You Say Nothing At All" leaves Ronan Keating's pallid version for dead). Largely songs about relationships but ones shining with the images and convictions of Paul's very real Christian faith. Real country for the connoisseur.
