Love country music, but weary of the negative lyrics of cheating, heartbreak and sin? Paul Overstreet is your man. A Christian whose contribution to the scene has gained the BMI Songwriter Of The Year prize on five successive years. Refreshingly positive songs promoting marriage, basic values and sensible priorities are his forte, his style a cool, smooth contemporary country with a slight folkie touch. His laid back voice is not too convincing on upbeat material, I was pleased when the jaunty "I Always Will" gave way to the gently flowing guitar intro to "One In A Million" for example. The version of the Southern gospel styled "My Rock" is a good attempt at the genre, without carrying a great deal of authenticity. But overall, there are some very fine songs on this album, "Mr Miller", "Even When It Don't Feel Like It", and "You Gave Me Time" are up there with his best work. And that's saying something.
