One of the few advantages of listening to US children's albums is that you cannot see the performers. The video/DVD has put a stop to that. Here are 25 kids' songs loosely based on Bible stories and verses packed into a mercifully short 28 minute DVD originally produced in 1998. Miss J's Sunday School class - seven toothy tots and pre-teens with a couple of adults who clearly failed the auditions for drama school - go to clear out the church attic. Cue all manner of silliness involving props, costumes and a sprinkling of puppets (the outstanding character for me was a mop called Stringy - that must tell you something about the quality of the acting), with the little darlings trying (and just failing) to lip-sync to voices that are very clearly not theirs. The songs are all fairly familiar even on this side of the Atlantic and include "His Banner Over Me Is Love", "My God Is So Big" and a medley of marching and battle songs ("Onward Christian Soldiers", "Battle Hymn Of The Republic", "We're Marching To Zion" and "Oh When The Saints"). I've asked the question before, and I'll ask it again - who on earth buys this kind of product? Just make sure it's not you!
