There is a finite number of phrases that can be used in worship songs and a finite number of musical phrases to which they can be set. We must be getting close to the limit of what can be done with them which means that many of today's worship songs and CD compilations of them are starting to sound the same. This set of 13, mainly new, songs from the 2004 New Wine summer conference is a well produced selection of songs written by and performed by such luminaries as Canada's Brian Doerksen, Ireland's Eoghan Heaslip and the USA's Eddie Espinosa. They are all good songs, including "Glory To God", "Holy Is The Lord" and Espinosa's "You Are The Mighty King" (25 years old this year!). They are sung well, with good instrumental arrangements and an enthusiastically worshipful crowd joining in. But, unless you were there and have a particular interest in this specific set of songs, there is nothing that really sets it apart from dozens of other live worship albums. It's a good CD amongst a host of other good CDs, without that spark that makes it stand out from the crowd.
