Countless books endeavour to define what it means to be "creative" and what constitutes "art" yet few go anywhere near in bringing fresh insight on the subject because few are prepared to dig deep into the Scripture to find answers. Singer, songwriter and diligent Bible student Michael Card does so and in the process produces a book full of insight and wisdom. With Jesus as his example, Card shows how understanding God's creative imagination leads into a lifestyle of humility, obedience and servanthood. There are plenty of quotes from people like theologian Calvin Seervald and head of music of Wheaton College, Harold Best, while Michael's own thoughts are valuable both to Christian artists and those seeking a greater understanding of our culture through eyes of faith. In an age when so many Christians involved in the arts are merely sub cultural slogan disseminators reiterating truisms for a small but safe church clique or worldly obsessives so driven by their dreams of success that they fail to recognise their art has lost most or all of its ability to spiritually impact, we need a book like this to point the way to pursue genuine Christian creativity. And taking seriously the Bible's directive to pursue excellence, Card's insights are presented in a beautifully designed and printed hardback.
