This veteran singer/songwriter is one of the most prolific and respected names in Christian music. The present 'Two For One' combination features his 1988 release, 'Present Reality' along with a "Best of so far" compilation, 'Joy In The Journey', released in 1994. Perhaps the most distinguishing and appreciated feature of Michael Card is the extensive research and Biblical scholarship which support the themes running through his songs (the lyrics to 'Present Reality' are in fact all taken from ideas in Paul's letters). This aspect, combined with the spiritual poignancy and craftiness of his lyrics - on a level comparable to, eg, those of Keith Green - leave a long-lasting mark on all who lend him an ear. Further, it's the pleasant, varied and often highly infectious melodies that carry these lyrical gems that help create the overall appeal of Card's music. Thus, "That's What Faith Must Be" (included here on both discs), "The Final Word" and "Come To The Table" are all wonderful standouts, as too, of course, is his most famous offering of all - "El Shaddai" (this song won Card a place in USA's prestigious "Top 365 Songs Of The Century" award) - although I have to say I personally prefer Amy Grant's version of this number. There's a truly timeless quality to many of these classic songs, making this double CD one you'll want to return to.
