Over the years Spring Harvest has become much more than Britain's most widely attended annual Christian event, it has also become a highly successful brand and this album, which has sold pretty well since its release in 2008, shows how important branding can be, even in the insular world of Christian retail. The truth is that if this album of soothing instrumental renditions of songs like "Beautiful One", "Abba Father", "To Be In Your Presence" and Tomlin's "Amazing Grace" had been packaged with a standard generic name like Instrumental Praise or Worship Him On The Guitar, or indeed showing producer/guitarist Dan Wheeler's name on the front sleeve, it wouldn't have sold half as well. It may sound cynical but Spring Harvest's name shifts units and the fact that these instrumentals put together by Wheeler and his friends (Mark Prentice on bass, Mark Edwards on keyboards, Lucy Payne on cello and Mike Haughton on saxes and woodwind) have only a negligible connection with the Spring Harvest event won't worry too many punters. If you're looking for neatly played instrumentals which never descend to Christian muzak level you might want to get this.
