To me, this is what a worship tape should be: exciting, sensitively led songs, performed and produced to the best professional standard. Because these are all classics you can join in right away but familiarity never equals contempt here -each track has a freshness of approach that makes the old favourites seem like new. They kick off, for instance, with "Joyful Joyful" sung to Beethoven's "Ode To Joy" but I'm not sure Beethoven would recognise it. Shawn Tubbs' electric guitar sounds more like Queen than your average church worship and the production betrays an intimate acquaintance with what's been in the pop charts for the last 20 years. "There Is Power" is unashamed reggae and it works! The happiness is infectious and listening to it you just have to join in. I guess its the next best thing to being there. Terry Butler's production is stamped on each track but that's fine if it suits you. And if what suits you is tight vocal harmony, sassy riffs, chunky bass lines, contemporary lead vocals and electrifying live worship then this little number is for you.
