An anthem is defined as a song of devotion or loyalty and the 24 live tracks on this two disc compilation certainly fit into this category. They include songs written by Kevin Prosch, Brian Doerksen, David Ruis and Martin Smith although performed by newer generation artists. With the notable exceptions of "Amazing Grace" (1835) and "It Is Well With My Soul" (1873) the material ranges from songs written between 1980 and 2011, the majority of which are drum-driven rock-oriented offerings which at times sound very similar and indistinct. However, some buck the trend such as the joyful "Song Of Hope", the Simple Minds and early U2 sounding "Prepare", the acoustic with country overtones "What Can I Bring", the hypnotic "Dwell" and the reggae spiritual "If You Say Go". Whether a handful of new and distinctive songs are enough to give this prominence in a market full of live worship albums only time will tell.
